3 ways to reduce your dogs carbon paw print

If you are anything like us at Sydney Dog Walker you LOVE enjoying the outdoors and value our parks and environment. We take little steps every day to try and help our planet be more sustainable. Sometimes it feels like we are fighting a losing battle but every little bit helps!

We have shared below 3 ways we help reduce the carbon paw print for the dogs we take out walking and pet sit. We hope you find them useful and let us know if you can think of more ways to help us reduce our carbon paw prints!

Use plastic free poop bags

We all know that using plastic bags is not good for our planet. We all take steps to use  reusable bags at the supermarket, but what about your doggy bags! There are biodegradable poop bags on the market but often they just break up as opposed to break down. We have found a  fantastic brand called Compost-a-pak an Australian company that has created a plastic free poop bag! Yes totally plastic free! They also have a full range of bags for all your needs around the home as well as picking up your dogs mess. We can 100% vouch for this product, they’re strong, odourless, and come in a range of quantities. Check them out here

Use chemical free grooming products

Our pets grooming products can contain lots of chemicals. We discovered Essential Dog a few years back is is  100% Australian Made and Owned and they are passionate about providing safer and natural alternatives for your dogs Shampoos, Conditioners, Deodorisers & Natural Skin Remedies. Their products are  free from parabens, sulphates, mineral and castor oils, contain no artificial colours, flavours or synthetic fragrances. Find out more about their range at

Use locally produced and designed product

By sourcing Australian made products you can help your pet reduce their carbon foot print. The amount of shipping used in products from overseas is huge. Check out your local makers of collars like Ruthless Leather , leads from Kumalong, or even our local treat makers Savour Life. All of these makers are also big rescue supporters so it is a win win!

Want the best dog leads ever?!

Here at Sydney Dog Walker we will be sharing some of our ‘behind the scene’  tools we use along with our favourite treats & the best Sydney parks to visit. We hope you enjoy our little stories as much as we enjoy heading out each day to parks with all our furry friends.

One of the most important tools we use every day is our dog leads. We have tried MANY leads but there is one that we absolutely love. Surprisingly you will not find it at a major pet store or at any major online provider. Want to know our secret leash provider?

The brand is called Kumalong and they are an Australian made company north of Sydney. We love supporting Australian made here at Sydney Dog Walker and to top it all off the company Kumalong are also big supporters of animal rescue and positive training methods. How good is that?!

We first came across the leads volunteering at Sydney Dog and Cats Home. We love how soft the material is on your hands. They are so strong and don’t fray like other leads. The best feature about these leads in the special O ring that easily clips the lead end to end so you can easily loop it over yourself for hands free off leash time.

This is our number one lead recommendation for walking your dog and the added bonus that you are supporting a local Australian business that supports the care for animals in need is a win win win.

The Kumalong range of dog leads are made of gentle-on-the-hands brushed Brushed polyester/cotton webbing.

All leads are double-stitched and overlocked with polyester thread for extra strength.

Kumalong Single Leads come with quality snap hooks and “D”-rings in strong metal alloy with attractive, long-wearing nickel finish.

You might be wondering what the “O” ring on the handle is for! Well, have you ever lost the lead when walking your dog off lead? Not any more, with Kumalong leads, you simply attach the “O” ring onto the snap hook, then place it around your neck and shoulder, now there is no chance of it slipping off.

The Single Lead comes in two widths and four lengths.
